Power of the Word Continued...

You might be wondering how the colleague responded.  The response? Well the response was a sentiment squasher.  The colleague, while shuffling paper and looking up once or twice said “Hey!  No Prob!” and continued to shuffle papers. This was followed by a long, uncomfortable and awkward silence.  Watching this brief but critical transaction I observed one individuals’ spirit sink.  For many, it takes courage to extend appreciation especially in a relationship that has been strained.  How we accept appreciation and recognition is so important and can help or hinder the relationship.  My challenge for  you this month is to pay close attention to how you accept and extend appreciation.  These are rich moments in communication and working relationships.  Use these moments to plant seeds!
