Welcome to the December edition of our newsletter! Winter is here and a New Year is about to begin! There is always something magical for me about the changing of the seasons and the process of one year ending and another beginning.
I enjoy the process of taking stock of the year coming to a close and 2009 has given me much to be grateful for both personally and professionally. As I reflect on the past year, there have been many learnings for me.
As you transition from one year to the next, it is helpful to reflect upon your accomplishments or wins, the relationships you are in (what you are contributing or how you serve others, and how others can assist you), the alignment between your passion/purpose and actions, and your goals and intentions for the year to come. May the year 2010 bring you joy, rich relationships, good health and success in your personal and professional endeavors. Happy Holidays and all the best for the New Year.

Personal & Professional Development While Driving?
For many of us, a great deal of time is spent driving, at airports or in the air. Did you know that those long road trips can be a personal and professional development experience? I use the time spent in my car as an opportunity to get me to where I need to go, literally, and also in terms of personal and professional development. Listening to CDs of interviews with experts, teleseminar recordings, and professional development CDs is a wonderful way to continue learning, advance skills, and build your knowledge bank. Some that I have enjoyed listening to include recently include: The Success Principles, Voices of Experience, and downloaded teleseminars.
Click here to listen to the free teleseminar that my colleague, Debra Kasowski, and I co-hosted with special guest Justin Hines and Janet Attwood.
Bounce Forward Tips for 2010
Igniting your resilience is much like turning on a switch and keeping that switch in the ON position. Staying resilient during the holiday seasons is a struggle for many. Often routines change, we get less rest, and stress is higher.
This month I have found myself being intrigued by the different ways in which people extend and accept thanks. Recently while consulting in a workplace I overhead an individual genuinely thank a colleague for helping her. It was evident by this woman’s expression of thanks that her colleagues’ behavior had deeply touched her, and that this expression of gratitude was most heartfelt. This was most important because these two colleagues had a history of difficult conversations and strains in their working relationship.
My colleague and friend Val Kinjerski recently released her book Rethinking Your Work-Getting to The Heart of What Matters. Her book and supporting workbook take readers through powerful and remarkable portraits of individuals living their purpose and working with passion. Val’s research on spirit at work has been extensive and most valuable in my work. Val Kinjerski, Phd, is a leading authority in the field of employee engagement and on the topic of spirit at work. She helps companies and organizations increase employee retention and boost productivity by reigniting employees love for their work. Charmaine volunteered at an amazing event in support of her friends, the Kasowski’s, Remember the Children campaign. This is the second event they have hosted providing shoeboxes filled with Christmas gifts to children in need. The event has tripled in a year and this year, they provided gifts to more than 300 Edmonton children. I was thrilled to participate in serving Christmas lunch to a grade three classroom and then was graced with the opportunity along with the other amazing volunteers to hand out the gifts to 150 children. WOW!
Charmaine has been busy writing - her book Published by Bettie Youngs Books (www.BettieYoungsBooks.com) On Toby's Terms - a story of life, love and purpose, will be in bookstores everywhere, Fall 2010. Also visit Toby’s website at www.tobytales.com
In December Charmaine co-presented a workshop with her dog Toby. The workshop titled Working on Purpose was an enjoyable way to learn about working with purpose and passion through lessons learned from a dog.
