It is almost the end of September and our sailboat (pictured above) will soon be put away for the season. Our 20 foot Tornado Catamaran has provided my husband Christopher and I many hours of summer fun, and just as many hours of personal learning and development.
Since creating our new Hammond International Inc. brand “Bounce Forward - Building Resilient and Inspired Teams”, I have had positive feedback about the concept of bounce forward. I am a firm believer that resilience, is the key to thriving during uncertain and difficult times. To me, resilience speaks to a sense of movement, optimistic attitudes and action, and the ability to reframe our responses in challenging times.
Communication is a critical foundation in the work I do and in business in general. I have always been fascinated with the power (or lack of) that some words carry. So many times I have sat in meetings, listened to people introduce themselves, and paid close attention to a message left on a voice mail.
I recently had the pleasure of trying to coordinate a meeting for approximately 10 professionals. Wow! Who knew how challenging that could be? When I called to arrange the “meeting”, I could feel the energy draining from the call and their bodies -“oh, a meeting” like I was inviting them to their last dinner. One lady suggested that the “M” word was a dreaded word in her workplace.
You never know who is sitting beside you. Recently I had a delightful conversation with a gentleman in an airport who is in my business target audience, and, I found out that we had a number of shared connections.
